Mission: Impossible (1996)

I have a lot of, probably rose tinted, nostalgia for this movie. It was really groundbreaking as a 90s spy movie alternative to the Bond franchise. It has all the good stuff. Cool gadgets, all kinds of spy shenanigans, twists and secrets, no one knows who to trust and who works for who.

Seeing it today it has a certain 90s cheesiness and more than a few things that makes little sense with a little logic. Like why doesn’t the ultra secure NOC list room have a simple motion detector or camera? But the ride is just so good that I can forgive things like that. It also runs at a refreshing under 2 hours and the pacing lets you breathe. I wish we could have Brian de Palma direct more action movies.
