Ride Lonesome (1959)
The western genre will never run low on stories about bounty hunters and somehow I will likely never get tired of them.
This movie didn’t have a big budget, but it doesn’t need it because everything is shot outside in the open desert - in beautiful Cinamascope. Barely any need for building sets. The script is tight and minimal, but manages quite a lot in its short running time. In typical western fashion we get a sense how all the characters have some backstory that is not fully explained, but instead shines through in how they act.
It is one of these 3 stars movies for me where I don’t have much outright negative to say, other than minor things like an uninspiring soundtrack and how the men gawking at Lane was a bit hokey. The good parts like the widescreen shots, the tight plot and the bit unusual setting made the movie definitely worth watching but not something that will stand out.
