The Driver (1978)

This film is just pure. It wastes no time with getting the rather straightforward but fully serviceable plot going. There are no unnecessary characters or sideplots. Barely any music. The raw scenes just speaks for themselves. Classic 70s style car chases with lots of tire squealing and great camerawork where you can actually see what is going on.

It is sometimes a bit style over substance, but I think it has enough substance and interesting characters to be more than a simple heist movie with car chases. Especially how it handles the few death scenes. Only a couple of people get shot, but every death is handled with a decent amount of gravitas, letting the brutality sink in and show a little bit of regret from the killer.
