Old Henry (2021)
The plot is as about as cliche as they can be for a western, but it does it so well that the result is better that it should be on paper. It is like a one-location version of “Unforgiven”.
A few caveats though. Tim Nelson is great as old Henry and Trace Adkins is a decent villain, whereas Scott Hazy as the wounded Curry and Gavin Lewis playing Henry’s son falls a bit through.
The “big reveal” at the end was okay and not something I saw coming, but it wasn’t really needed for the movie to work. I think it would have been better if everything wasn’t explained like that. In my opinion, westerns should always leave a bit of mystery around its characters.
