The Searchers (1956)
While I am reasonably well versed in spaghetti western I haven’t watched any of the classic American westerns. Not a bad place to start.
I expected John Wayne to be the hero but I am not sure what he is here. Definitely very angry and mostly rude and unlikeable. The real hero in this movie was Martin played by Jeffrey Hunter.
The whole is simply beautiful. I love the classic technicolor vibe. But the theme of the movie is pretty dark. The whole theme of miscegenation hit me hard. Loss of personal identity is the one of the worst form of horror for me. Especially the scene where they are looking at some of the recaptured people that are clearly no longer themselves.
